Meet the AFI Qld Mouldering Achiever of the Year for 2016 – Adrian Lambert

Our very own Apprentice Moulder – Adrian Lambert, has been chosen to represent QLD as the Mouldering Achiever of the Year for 2016!

Background to the Awards

Since 1970, the Australian Foundry Institute (AFI) has conducted annual National Foundry Competitions in moulding/core making and extending the competition to pattern making in 1971. The years have seen many changes to the industry and to the training environments.

One of the key objectives of the AFI is to promote education within the industry, primarily amongst institute members. As the market has changed and the numbers in apprentices reducing, AFI National acknowledged that changes to the historic ‘apprentice competition’ were necessary. However, the AFI wanted to continue to recognise Industry Achievers whilst providing learning opportunities.

In 2005 AFI National, with the support of each State, changed the structure of the annual foundry competition by removing the competition component from the annual conference and giving each state the responsibility of selecting one (or more) Cast Metal Industry Achiever/s based on the criteria and nomination process designed by the State and aligned to the Aims of an Industry Achiever. The reward to the Achiever is a fully sponsored attendance at the AFI National Australian Conference.

The aims of the AFI Conference Cast Metal Industry Achiever of the Year are:

  • To maintain a high standard of trainees entering the trades;
  • To continue the development of skills and initiative;
  • Maintain and promote a high standard of craftsmanship and professionalism within the industry;
  • To reward the best achievers within the industry; and
  • Encourage achievers to remain in the cast metal industry.

The Conference

The Council of the QLD Division of the Australian Foundry Institute chose our very own Adrian Lambert to be the State Representative. The conference will run from the 9th – 12th October in Geelong, Victoria. Transport costs and accommodation will be paid in full by the State AFI to attend the Conference and AFI Queensland will pay for registration.

At the end of the Conference the Achievers will be asked to write a brief paper and present it to the AFI Qld Division on what they personally achieved out of the Conference.

A booth displaying relevant examples of their work will also be manned at selected times throughout the conference to give them the opportunity to interact with sponsors and delegates.

We couldn’t be prouder of Adrian’s achievement and recognition for all of his hard work.

We look forward to hearing about his experience from the Conference.
